As with any electrical component, starter relays are prone to failure with use and age. Every time you engage the electric start, the starter relay is negotiating the power from the battery to the starter motor so that the switch doesn’t have to handle the high amp draw from the starter motor. Typically when this part fails, a ticking noise will be observable when the start button is pressed, with no engagement of the engine. TICK TICK..
