Description Green – blue sapphire gemstone necklace set in a handmade silver setting with a triangular wire circle surround. This sapphire is a pretty green – blue colour and measures 3.34mm.  It is a round faceted gem set in a rubover style setting which means the silver is pushed over the gem keeping it secure. This gemstone is the birthstone of September and the gem for a 45th and 65th wedding anniversary. Surrounded by a circle made using triangular wire this pendant has been handmade in sterling silver. Suspended from 3 links at the top to a silver belcher link style chain. Design and Craftsmanship: Gemstone: Sapphires and rubies are in the same family known as corundum and any colour gem within this group other than the red of ruby is classed as a sapphire. Pure corundum is colourless and sapphires get their hue from impurities within their crystal structures.  In the case of a blue sapphire the colour is from iron and titanium elements and green is again from iron which is present within the gem.  This particular gem has a small natural inclusion in the gemstone; visible with an eye glass.
